(Aurora, Ill.-December 22, 2011) – It wasn’t your typical company Christmas party. Yet, judging from the good cheer and wishes of a happy holiday, you might have thought it was as Kelmscott Communications staffers came out in force to hand out hams and holiday bags of food to 1,100 families at the Aurora Area Interfaith Food Pantry. In addition to providing volunteers, the 75-year-old Fox Valley company donated money toward the purchase of hams.
“There are so many people right in our community who need a helping hand. The people who work at Kelmscott want to help others. We’re happy to be part of this effort,” said Scott Voris, president and CEO of Kelmscott Communications, a full-service marketing and printing company located on Aurora’s east side.
Marilyn Weisner, director of the Aurora Area Interfaith Food Pantry, appreciated Kelmscott Communications’ heartfelt contribution. “At the end of the day, a company is measured by many things: profitability, employee morale, client service and how well they adhere to their corporate mission. But there’s another factor that is just as important as any of those, that is, a company’s desire for a greater good. Not only did Kelmscott Communications help us purchase hams, they also gave of their time. That means a lot to us,” said Weisner. Kelmscott Communications also donated creative services and printing for the food pantry’s 30th Annual Thanksgiving Gala event in November.
In Aurora alone, there are 20,654 people who live in poverty with 9,813 of them being children. The hundreds of cars lined up to receive food from the pantry turned those numbers into people who made a big impression on employees at Kelmscott Communications. “There was one van in line with kids in the backseat,” said Celia Werschulz, a sales executive at the company. “The mother smiled, we put the food in her car and then she started to pull away. Suddenly, she stopped the van and her little boy lowered the window. He waved to me and said, ‘Merry Christmas.’ I will never forget his face and it just made me feel so good about what our company was doing and why we were there.”
Kelmscott Communications supported another important community endeavor for the second year in a row: Coats for Kids sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Aurora, city officials and other community groups. In 2010, more than 800 people received free coats and boots. This year, the initiative was expanded to serve families in Indian Prairie Unit District 204, East Aurora District 129 and West Aurora District 131. Kelmscott Communications made a significant donation to Coats for Kids, becoming a lead sponsor for the effort. Once again, they also supplied volunteers. Kelmscott Communications president and CEO Scott Voris said, “If we all pull together, we can make a positive difference for people throughout the Fox Valley.”
